THE IMPORTANCE OF DAYLIGHT IN YOUR HOME

We all have an internal body clock that tells our bodies when to be awake and when to sleep. Known as the circadian rhythm, this usually follows a daily 24-hour cycle. Natural light exposure during the day plays an important role in regulating this system[1]. In fact, exposure to daylight helps you sleep better and feel more awake in the morning, and studies show it can positively improve your health and wellness[2]. Providing enough indoor access to daylight can positively influence our productivity and mood while supporting our circadian rhythms and natural day-night cycles[3]. Building design obviously has a crucial role to play and window size should ideally exceed the current minimum standards[4], meaning both your place of work and home should have well-designed window placement and size to maximise access to daylight. At Bauhaus Living we are constantly trying to apply these principles and are always questioning how we can design homes that positively affect health. When you are next thinking about moving home, take time to consider if the building can positively impact your health and wellbeing.
